How Aston Martin Learned to Never Trust Ford

There was a time when Aston Martin meant Bond films, silver coupes, naturally aspirated high displacement engines, and distinct elegant styling. Since then Aston Martin has changed hands quite a few times, and now they're... Well... Different.

Fusion looks like an Aston? I like most of your videos but you're talking out your backside with a megaphone on that one. That fusion design is based off a much older drawing and you can find many elements from that drawing in the mustang as well. Look at the mustang grill, its the same shape. Ignorant video. Thumbs down.

So you're telling me that a grille design, which resembles '60s Ford designs to begin with AND was developed under the stewardship of Ford by an entity that 1) mimicked '70s Fords with their earlier cars and 2) certainly WOULD NOT exist without the ownership of Ford, was somehow stolen? And at the same time, you're also suggesting that a niche luxury brand is somehow more viable than a mass-market behemoth which has product loyalty that's comparable to Apple? Yeah, okay.... LOL. Just more agenda-driven 'import apologist' content.

Heaven forbid that their brands have cohesive design language. Ford brought rover, Jaguar, and Aston out of the dumpster. All 3 brands were stagnant, at best. Not to mention that Ford sold their revitalized brands when the economy went bust, keeping them from taking the bailout $$$. They did everything right at the time, unlike GM and Chrysler.

  46. Dodd Wooten

Let's see if we have this straight. Ford bought and arguably saved Aston with a massive influx of cash and engineering Aston never had. Sales skyrocketed. Then Ford used one of it's Jaguar designers to design Aston's cars and bring them into the modern era. So how can anyone say that Ford or Jag stole their (Aston's) design when it was theirs to begin with? Aston didn't design that 'look' that Jag and Ford used, it was already theirs. Ford used that design on not just the Fusion but the Focus, Fiesta, Escape and Taurus somewhat as well. Not a fan of that, but anyway... If anything, Aston borrowed the design from Jag. However, Ford owned everyone at the time so it's Ford's design, shared amongst its brands. Guess the pompous AM crowd too proud to recognize that basically Jaguar designed it's winning design, and that's what it took to make AM successful.

  74. Valentine XK8

The reason the Focus/Fusion has that grille might have to do with the fact that Ian Callum’s brother, Moray Callum oversaw it’s design…... 😉 The DB7 design came from a Jaguar concept initially, the XJ41/XJ42 concepts from the 80’s were the basis for both the DB7 & XK8. Probably why a lot of their cars wound up pretty similar visually. Not to mention the DB7 - like the 1997 - 2006 XK8 - was also built on the same XJS platform as the XK8…… This is the crap my brain retains & not useful info btw 🤣

This ones funny... you gotta realize that during the Auto industry bailout, they stood up a corporation called TOWER INTERNATIONAL that makes Car Chassis so that all the car vendors no longer have to. Its why alot of cars look the same after about 2008 or so... its the same underlying chassis just with different trim components that makes an Audi into a bmw into a volkswagon into a nissan into a ford into a mercedes... etc... this had to be offloaded so they could continue to focus on the trending systems and automation systems they want to put in place to track all movement in the USA... (nevermind the cameras on every intersection being used to track license plates which is basically the government recording all ones wearabouts based on where ones plates were recorded as being)

  88. CoruscantMe

    CoruscantMePrije 2 dana

"History Tower International was formed in 1993, however many of the engineering and manufacturing operations date back further. A.O. Smith Automotive Products Company, which was acquired by Tower International in 1997, has roots dating back to the early days of the automotive industry. The 1903 Cadillac was produced on the first steel frame which was invented by A.O. Smith. In the 1920s their first fully automatic frame line with adjustable riveting robots became known as a “Mechanical Marvel”.[citation needed] On October 15, 2010, Tower International common stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange following the initial public offering (“IPO”)." I'm a design student. - Here we go... Aston Martins GT-look isn't unique. It's just classic, and few manufacturers are left to carry the style. The only unique Aston trademark, is their grill. But even that has been seen in different versions. And they can't claim everything that looks close to every version, as design infringement. Otherwise they might as well sue Angelina Jolies parents for giving her those lips. Only insecure Aston Martin would feel threatened by someone else making a car (almost) as good looking as theirs, and claim the other is copying them. Like the hot girl who has nothing else going for her but her looks. She quickly becomes a bitch, when someone is almost, just as or better looking and in the same room as her. The Vantage and the XK8 don't look the same. They just follow the classic attractive front-engine GT form very closely. It would be like saying the Lotus Esprit and Ferrari 348/355 look the same. They just follow the classic wedge-shape mid-engine form very closely. What makes cars look the same, are the styling cues and solutions they choose, in a compromise between styling and practicality. And this typically goes one way when focus is mostly on practicality, and it shows in cartypes like hatchbacks, MPV's and Crossovers, that try to satisfy everyone, by turning into a white/black/grey blob, with two creases down the side. Sportscars don't have to be practical, so they can go many ways with a concept, as Aston Martin and Jaguar, or Lotus and Ferrari did, even while following the same basic concept closely. I don't mistake one for the other. Only people who are not interested in cars do. And they buy Teslas anyway.
